How the AI features in Quala Labs work, what they see, and the limits we place on them.
1. What the AI features do

AI is never available during examinations or supervised assignments.
2. Who can use them
AI features are included in the Premium and Enterprise plans. The School can switch off student hints while keeping the teacher tools.
3. What data the AI sees
- We send the model only what a task needs: the question, the relevant code and test results, and earlier hints for the same question.
- We never send student names, email addresses or other contact details.
- Our current AI provider is Groq, which processes requests on our behalf as a sub-processor.
- We do not use School Data to train AI models.
4. A teacher stays in charge
AI output can be incomplete or wrong. Every AI-suggested mark, question or rubric is a draft for a teacher to review, and the School remains responsible for the marks and materials it uses. An AI suggestion is never recorded as a final mark on its own.
5. Student hints, with care
- Hints explain an idea. They are designed never to contain code, and code is removed if a model produces it.
- Each student can ask for a limited number of hints per question, and each school has a daily limit.
- Teachers can see every hint a student asked for and received, and students are told this.
6. Acceptable use of AI
AI features must be used in line with our Acceptable Use Policy. Do not try to make the AI produce harmful content or reveal hidden test cases or answers.
